HERE | NOW (2014)
July 25 - October 24, 2014

Design Cloud presents HERE | NOW, an exhibition visualizing stress, loss, and longing through new and evolving work from artists Stacia Yeapanis and Jason Uriah White, curated by MOUNT Resident MK Meador.

HERE | NOW seeks to explore a dichotomy of expression. With the reservation and obfuscation in White’s “emotional topographies” compared to Yeapanis’ practice of embodied meditation generating individual components for her impermanent and improvisational installations.

Meador says, “Taken as a whole, this show offers a glimpse at how the creatively-minded visualize stress, loss and longing.”

Yeapanis presents two bodies of work: Specimens (2013), her shadowbox collages, explore desires for food, sex, status, romantic love, escape, and physical perfection; while Presence Portal— an impermanent, improvisational installation created entirely onsite at Design Cloud—deals with a more profound longing.

Of her work, Yeapanis remarks, “Both are sensory experiences of repetition that can transform anxiety about impermanence, uncertainty, and imperfection into curiosity about the mystery of what’s actually here, right now.”

White’s inspired by forces experienced within the natural world. His interpretation of modern themes of emotion are depicted as evolving, overlapping fluid lines in motion–forms that seem to be constantly changing.

Playing off his professional experience as a new media director working with new animation technologies, White’s What is Now grapples with the distance between modern life and new technology by rendering erratic emotions as suspended forms that hover within the constraints of a structured diorama.
